Balcony Tiles & Re-Tiling

Balcony and Outdoor Tiling Works Melbourne

Leaking Balcony Repairs and Renovations

Where a leak has caused too much damage to a balcony’s substrate (underlying layer), then the only option to repair the balcony may be to do a Full ReTile.

This is where SCR will remove all the existing tiles and damaged substrate and remove it all from site.

SCR will re-sheet with correct Industrial sheeting, and (if required) screed the balcony to correct the fall, to ensure water adequately runs off the balcony.

SCR then carries out it’s high quality waterproofing process to ensure your balcony is waterproofed to Australian Standards AS4654-2012.

Our Melbourne-based tilers will then attend to lay your tiles using Industrial Tile Adhesives.

Once tiled, SCR Melbourne use Grout with waterproof additives (at no additional cost) and apply final Industrial Waterproof perimeter seals to your balcony – ensuring you now have a fully waterproofed Balcony!

This service normally takes between 5-7 working days for completion depending on the size and structure of the balcony.

Balconies can leak due to a number of reasons, including a decay of the waterproof membranes, balcony structure problems, inadequate drainage and improper applications. These aspects then make the membrane break down and water damage can occur to your balcony.

To avoid a leaking balcony, it’s firstly important to have a proper waterproofing installation that can withstand different elements and last for a long time. Regular inspections can help you identify any potential issues and signs of wear on your balcony that require maintenance, such as cracks or stains.

If a balcony leak is left untreated, the water damage can spread and create other problems in your home. Water can seep into the walls and ceilings around the balcony, causing stains and cracks to form. Substantial damage can even render your balcony to collapse.

Signs that your balcony is leaking and may require a full retile:

  • If you see multiple cracked and broken tiles across your balcony surface, then there is a good chance your substrate is damaged.

  • If you feel the balcony sinking or it feels ‘spongey’ to walk on – this is another sign your substrate has sustained damage and will need to be repaired.

  • Tiles that are lifting or have come away from the substrate is another good indication that there is substrate damage.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms across your balcony it would be a good idea to have your balcony diagnose as a matter of urgency to ensure it does not collapse and cause any harm to people.
